Yoon Mi-hyang Discouraged Grandmother Lee Yong-soo from Running for Parliament 8 Years Ago
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] 'No Cut News' reported on the 27th that a recording appears to have been obtained showing that Yoon Mi-hyang, the elected member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party of Korea, discouraged Grandmother Lee Yong-soo from running in the 2012 general election.
According to No Cut News, in a phone call on March 8, 2012, Yoon discouraged Grandmother Lee Yong-soo, who said she was running for the National Assembly election "to resolve the comfort women issue and die," by saying, "Can't you work on resolving the comfort women issue without becoming a member of the National Assembly?"
At that time, Grandmother Lee Yong-soo held a press conference at the Daegu City Party of the Democratic United Party (now the Democratic Party of Korea) and declared her candidacy, saying, "I absolutely cannot die without resolving the comfort women issue. If I become a member of the National Assembly, I will definitely obtain an apology and compensation from the Japanese Emperor."
No Cut News reported that the phone call between Yoon and Grandmother Lee took place just before the press conference announcing her candidacy.
Yoon reportedly mentioned to Grandmother Lee that "other comfort women grandmothers dislike your candidacy in the general election," to which Grandmother Lee responded, "Why would other grandmothers be upset about what I do? I don't do things because of that."
Grandmother Lee said, "If I become a member of the National Assembly, I will donate all my salary to good causes," and added, "If you are worried, just say 'I am worried about grandmother's health.'"
