40s Sentenced to 10 Months in Prison for Repeated Misconduct in Emergency Room
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] A man in his 40s who repeatedly caused disturbances in a hospital emergency room was sentenced to prison.
The Cheongju District Court Criminal Division 4 (Presiding Judge Kim Ryong) announced on the 26th that A (49), who was indicted and detained on charges of habitual misconduct (obstruction of business) in a hospital emergency room, was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
The court stated the reason for sentencing, saying, "The defendant caused disturbances such as verbally abusing others in the emergency room without any reason, interfering with medical treatment, etc. Considering the situation where other patients could have suffered significant harm, the nature of the crime is very serious."
A was prosecuted for causing a disturbance by throwing an IV bag on the floor and verbally abusing medical staff at a general hospital emergency room in Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju City, on March 24.
Afterward, A is also accused of causing disturbances by verbally abusing medical staff at the same hospital emergency room for two consecutive days.
A reportedly called 119 for help and was transported to the hospital by ambulance but caused a disturbance as soon as he entered the emergency room.
A, who had previously been punished for obstruction of official duties, is said to have committed the crime again during the probation period.
