Foreign Substances Appear Occasionally... Yuhan-Kimberly Sanitary Pads
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] The manufacturer of women's hygiene products (sanitary pads) produced by household goods company Yuhan-Kimberly is on high alert after foreign substances were found in the products. Yuhan-Kimberly collected and analyzed the products and found that the sanitary pads contained natural seasoning (food additive) components, and the company promised to prevent recurrence.
A(32, female), an office worker living in Seoul, recently opened the sealed packaging of Yuhan-Kimberly's 'Wearable Overnight Sanitary Pad' product and discovered a foreign substance in the form of yellow powder inside the pad. Since A found it immediately after opening the sealed package, it was judged that the foreign substance likely entered during the production process. After showing the photo of the foreign substance to Yuhan-Kimberly and explaining the situation, the company promptly collected the foreign substance on the same day. Four days later, Yuhan-Kimberly analyzed the substance and confirmed that there was about an 80% possibility it was a food additive, and informed A of the results.
According to the foreign substance identification report of A's Yuhan-Kimberly Wearable Overnight Sanitary Pad obtained by this outlet on the 26th, the foreign substance was measured using an ATR-equipped Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FT-IR), and based on the overall composition, it was presumed to be a type of food additive. The analysis was conducted by Yuhan-Kimberly collecting A's sanitary pad and requesting an external advisory analysis institution to perform the test.

Yuhan-Kimberly stated that since most of the manufacturing process is mechanized, the probability of food additives entering due to process or employee error is very low, but added, "We are making our best efforts to reduce the probability of foreign substance contamination to 0%, but occasionally some cases may not be completely prevented." They also said, "Taking this incident as an opportunity, we plan to re-inspect the factory equipment and systems and prepare measures to prevent recurrence."
