[Asia Economy (Uijeongbu) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has decided to reduce road occupancy fees following reductions in river occupancy fees.
On the 24th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will reduce the road occupancy fees charged to small business owners for the period from March to May this year.
A provincial official explained, "Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, sales have decreased and the livelihood and local economy have been shrinking," adding, "This decision was made to ease the burden on small business owners."
The province estimated that the reduction will apply to 8,700 cases, amounting to 1.8 billion KRW. This corresponds to 25% of the total amount charged this year, which is 7.2 billion KRW.
However, public enterprises and public institutions are excluded from the reduction.
