GS Caltex-Invested Fueling App Owin, "Can Disaster Relief Funds Be Used?!"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] It is attracting attention that emergency disaster relief funds can be used when paying for fuel through the mobile refueling app OWIN. Users can also enjoy up to 11,000 KRW in fuel discounts, allowing them to use disaster relief funds economically.
OWIN, the largest mobile refueling platform in Korea, announced on the 20th that disaster relief funds can be used when paying for fuel through its mobile app. While it is difficult to use disaster relief funds in most online e-commerce and services, drivers can pay for fuel with disaster relief funds on the OWIN mobile app, an essential lifestyle platform for drivers.
Previously, in 2017, GS Caltex invested 2 billion KRW in the connected car company OWIN to discover future new businesses. OWIN, a startup launched in 2015, provides a service that connects vehicles to payment methods via wireless networks, enabling payment for fuel or goods at gas stations. Using this service, drivers can order coffee or hamburgers via smartphone without leaving their cars. In March 2017, OWIN established a related service cooperation system with GS Caltex, Shinhan Card, and LG Uplus.
The OWIN app automatically applies the maximum discount benefits that drivers can receive after refueling and automatically charges the amount to a pre-registered card. If a card that received disaster relief funds is pre-registered, the disaster relief funds are automatically deducted at the fuel payment stage. Currently, it is available with Shinhan, Kookmin, and Lotte cards, and users can pay with disaster relief funds at gas stations in their residential districts.
In particular, when paying for fuel with disaster relief funds, users can simultaneously enjoy additional discount benefits such as OWIN’s regular 20 KRW per liter discount, mileage benefits, and event coupons, minimizing the burden of fuel costs.
OWIN is strengthening marketing by offering new subscribers a 3,000 KRW sign-up coupon and up to 3,000 KRW monthly discount per liter. During May, a pledge event is also underway where drivers who achieve their self-set target fuel amount receive a fuel discount coupon worth up to 5,000 KRW.
