Jeonbuk Gunsan - Chungnam Seocheon Join Hands for Win-Win Development of Geumgang Estuary~
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lim Jae-woo] Expectations are rising that a win-win foundation between Gunsan and Seocheon will be established as a master plan establishment project based on the Geumgang Estuary has commenced.
According to Gunsan City on the 22nd, the "Geumgang Estuary Grand Master Plan Establishment Project" is being promoted for the systematic utilization of the Geumgang Estuary in cooperation with Seocheon County.
This project is jointly invested and carried out by Seocheon County and Gunsan City, and will proceed over a total of 20 months until November next year.
This project was adopted as an agenda item at the "2019 1st Gunsan-Seocheon Administrative Council" held in June last year, and the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), a government-funded research institute under the Prime Minister's Office, was finally selected as the executing agency.
Until now, the two cities and counties, which had shown differences in positions regarding projects such as Geumrando development and seawater circulation based on the Geumgang Estuary, are expected to lead true coexistence and harmony by establishing a systematic development plan and preparing joint utilization measures for the Geumgang through this project.
In particular, based on resources available for utilization in various fields such as the history of the Geumgang, cultural tourism, ecology, ports, fisheries, industry, and urban regeneration, regional linkage cooperation projects will be discovered and proposed jointly to central government ministries to enhance the effectiveness of the plan.

Ko Dae-sung, head of the Planning and Budget Division of Gunsan City, said, "Based on the results of this project, Gunsan City and Seocheon County plan to promote various cooperative projects to create synergy effects and firmly establish a partnership relationship that pursues long-term regional development beyond simple exchanges."
