Prosecution Seeks 8 Years and 6 Months Imprisonment for Jeon Byeongheon in Bribery Appeal Trial
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] In the appeal trial of former lawmaker Jeon Byeongheon, who was prosecuted for receiving several hundred million won in bribes from Lotte Home Shopping through the Korea e-Sports Association, the prosecution demanded a prison sentence of 8 years and 6 months.
On the 22nd, at the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Jeong Junyoung), during the appeal trial sentencing hearing of former lawmaker Jeon, the prosecution requested 7 years imprisonment for charges including bribery and violation of the Political Funds Act, and 1 year and 6 months imprisonment for other charges such as abuse of authority. They also requested a confiscation of approximately 650 million won related to the bribery charges.
In the first trial, a sentence of 5 years imprisonment was given for bribery and related charges, and 1 year imprisonment with 2 years probation was given for other charges. A fine of 350 million won and confiscation of 25 million won were also imposed. However, the defendant was not detained in court to guarantee the right to defense.

Former lawmaker Jeon was indicted on charges of demanding Lotte Home Shopping, GS Home Shopping, and KT, while serving as a member of the National Assembly's Future Creation Science and Communication Committee (Mibangwi), to donate or sponsor a total of 550 million won to the e-Sports Association, including 300 million won, 150 million won, and 100 million won respectively.
