The 21st National Assembly elected members have decided to entrust the party leadership with merger discussions.
On the 22nd, from 8 a.m., the party leadership including Won and the proportional representation elected members held an emergency meeting at the National Assembly for about two hours and reached this consensus.
Immediately after the meeting, Leader Won said in a briefing, "The Korea Party leadership will do its best to complete the merger by the 29th, accepting the hopes and suggestions of the elected members." Following this, elected member Cho Tae-yong said, "The 18 first-term elected members trust the party leadership and the entrusted committee and will leave the merger discussions to them."
This meeting was arranged after the Korea Party elected members and party officials urged the leadership the day before to "complete the merger process by the 29th." The party secretariat officials have opposed extending Leader Won's term and have been refusing party duties since the previous day.

Although Leader Won expressed his intention to merge within this month and the elected members respected this, no conclusion was reached regarding the extension of Leader Won's term. Leader Won plans to gather opinions from incumbent 20th National Assembly members and then hold a Supreme Council meeting to decide. The party leadership still mentions the possibility that a merger within this month may become difficult, so the possibility of holding a party convention on the 26th to extend the term cannot be ruled out.
