Seocho-gu Promotes Innovative Public Project Combining 4th Industrial Education (AI·Coding) and Comprehensive Arts
Promoting Education Programs with the Community in 6 Fields, Worth 282 Million KRW... Conducting AI and Coding Education for Youth to Develop Applications Directly
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) will promote the Seocho Innovation Education District public contest project from June to meet the diversified educational demands and to foster children’s creative self-directed learning ability and proper emotional development.
The project will be conducted in a total of six fields with a total budget of 282 million KRW.
This public contest project breaks away from the existing framework and presents a new paradigm of education.
While previous education focused on "what to learn," this Seocho Innovation Education District public contest project focuses on "creating outcomes through learning and sharing them together." Unlike in 2019, two unique Seocho-gu specialized projects (Youth Dream & Talent School, Youth Creative Development Group using AI and Coding) will be newly introduced.
The "Youth Dream & Talent School" is an expanded project of the Seocho-gu Youth English Musical School, which was very popular among parents and students last year. Musical theater is a comprehensive art form where performers express characters in their own unique way and communicate and cooperate with other actors.
Therefore, it is a highly challenging project that requires tailored education for students and harmony among them. However, Seocho-gu Office successfully conducted musical education last year with 1,127 audience members per performance and 1,800 views on the performance’s YouTube video, winning an excellence award in the youth activity case contest hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, demonstrating its know-how in this project. Expectations are high for the newly implemented "Youth Dream & Talent School."
Notably, in this "Youth Dream & Talent School," expert vocalization and dance techniques will be taught from the basics through video content that anyone can follow and learn at home, which will be posted on Seocho-gu’s YouTube channel. This is expected to receive a positive response from parents and students in relation to untact education, which has emerged due to COVID-19.
The second new project is the "Youth Creative Development Group using AI and Coding." It aims to discover and nurture AI and coding talents and support students in developing their own programs. While many local governments provide AI and coding education, Seocho-gu is the only one supporting program development using these skills.
For this project, Seocho-gu collaborates with local schools to recruit and select students interested in AI and coding, providing specialized education so that students can plan and develop programs themselves. This is significant as education goes beyond simple experience to a stage where learned skills can be applied.
Additionally, programs developed for practical use by residents will be available for download on the "Google Play Store," allowing any resident to easily access and directly experience them, which is also noteworthy.
As the nation’s only music culture district, Seocho-gu will continue the "Emotional Sensory Supplement Program Eumgam-Migam" and "Psychological Emotional Care Program Maeum-Ieum" this year as well, following last year.
"Eumgam-Migam" aims to prevent psychological and emotional problems in advance by observing students’ minds through music and art activities and providing psychological and emotional solutions to homeroom teachers to prevent students’ psychological issues.
"Maeum-Ieum" goes a step further by offering integrated art therapy programs to students who require psychological treatment support.
Other projects include "Modum Moye," a community sharing project planned, executed, and evaluated directly by youth, and "Youth Toktok," where youth independently plan lectures and conduct talk concerts. These projects foster self-directed creative talents and cultivate democratic citizenship capabilities among youth, drawing attention.
