Jiyu Withdraws from All Domestic Offline Stores
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] FRL Korea has decided to cease operations of three offline stores of the Japanese manufacturing and distribution integrated (SPA) brand GU in South Korea.
On the 21st, GU announced that it will close its offline stores in South Korea around August and continue operations solely online. GU opened its first store in South Korea in September 2018 and currently operates three offline stores along with an online store.
An FRL Korea official explained, "Considering various factors such as the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the necessity for changes in the business structure including e-commerce, we have decided to stop operating offline stores in South Korea around August."
The GU online store will operate until the end of July, and after a preparation period, some products will be sold through the UNIQLO online store, which is under FRL Korea.
The Japanese SPA brand GU is a sister company of UNIQLO and belongs to the GU business division of FRL Korea, the Korean subsidiary of UNIQLO.
