Kang Shin-ho, Honorary Chairman of Dong-A Socio Group, Receives the 1st Korea Pharmaceutical Industry Award
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association announced on the 20th that it has selected Kang Shin-ho, Honorary Chairman of Dong-A Socio Group, as the recipient of the '1st Korea Pharmaceutical Awards' (Pharmaceutical and Bio sector).
Honorary Chairman Kang is the son of the late Kang Jung-hee, the founder of Dong-A Pharmaceutical. Born in 1927 in Sangju, Gyeongbuk, Honorary Chairman Kang graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine and its graduate school, and earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Freiburg in Germany.
He became CEO of Dong-A Pharmaceutical in 1975, Chairman of Dong-A Socio Group in 1981, and later served as President of the Korea Pharmaceutical Association in 1987 and Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries in 2004. He was recognized by the government for his contributions to the advancement of science and technology and received the National Science and Technology Creation Award in 2002.
The Korea Pharmaceutical Awards were jointly established by three pharmaceutical industry organizations?the Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association, the Korean Pharmaceutical Association, and the Korea Pharmaceutical Distribution Association?to foster pride in the efforts and service of the pharmaceutical industry and to publicly acknowledge their achievements.
It is reported that the three heads of the organizing bodies unanimously agreed on selecting Chairman Kang as the award recipient. Won Hee-mok, President of the Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association, said, "Honorary Chairman Kang devoted his life to improving public health and contributed to the development of the pharmaceutical industry."
