View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] LG Chem announced that one person died and two were injured in a fire related to the packaging room at the catalyst center of the Daesan plant, and that the fire has been extinguished.
On the 19th at around 2:20 PM, LG Chem explained regarding the fire accident at the Daesan Industrial Complex in Daesan-eup, Seosan-si, Chungnam, "It is presumed that powder was discharged and spontaneously ignited at the time of withdrawal after work was completed on site," adding, "The exact cause of the fire is under investigation."
As a result of this accident, one employee present at the site died, and two others were transferred to a nearby hospital with second-degree burns on their face and neck. The fire department, which responded after receiving the report, extinguished the fire within about 10 minutes.
The fire department confirmed that there was no leakage of hazardous chemical substances. Currently, the facility is suspended. LG Chem explained that immediately after the accident occurred, the plant’s own fire brigade and emergency vehicles were dispatched to the site for initial response.
LG Chem stated, "We will do our utmost to manage the aftermath of the accident and take full responsibility for the recovery of the injured," and added, "We will strive to prevent recurrence of such accidents through thorough investigation and cause analysis."
