China Ahead of Two Sessions... 6 New COVID-19 Cases Confirmed
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] As the Two Sessions (Lianghui - the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference), China's largest political event, are set to begin in Beijing on the 21st, new COVID-19 infections continue to be reported within China.
On the 19th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, there were 6 new confirmed COVID-19 cases. Among them, 3 cases were imported from overseas, and 3 cases were locally transmitted within China. These 3 locally infected patients were added from Jilin Province (2 cases), where cluster infections are occurring, and Hubei Province (1 case), which has many asymptomatic infections.
The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in China stands at 82,960, of which 4,634 have died and 78,241 have recovered and been discharged. Currently, 85 confirmed patients are receiving treatment.
The number of newly added asymptomatic infections per day is also continuing.
On the 18th alone, 17 asymptomatic infections were reported, bringing the total number of asymptomatic infections under medical observation to 389. Asymptomatic infections refer to individuals who test positive for COVID-19 but do not exhibit symptoms such as fever, cough, or sore throat.

Meanwhile, the cumulative confirmed cases in the Greater China region outside mainland China are 1,540 in total, including Hong Kong (1,055 cases), Macau (45 cases), and Taiwan (440 cases).
