Shinsegae Food's 'Olban Chal Hotdog' Surpasses 15 Million Units Sold
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Shinsegae Food's snack-type home meal replacement 'Olban Chal Hot Dog' is gaining popularity.
On the 19th, Shinsegae Food announced that the cumulative sales of Olban Chal Hot Dog, launched in 2018, have exceeded 15 million units. In particular, from January to April this year, the monthly sales volume of Olban Chal Hot Dog increased by more than double (147%) compared to the same period last year, and it ranked first in sales among about 10 types of frozen hot dogs sold at E-Mart Traders.
Olban Chal Hot Dog satisfies three key factors simultaneously: professional-level taste, easy preparation, and reasonable price, earning positive responses from consumers. Additionally, Shinsegae Food analyzed that the prolonged home schooling due to the COVID-19 pandemic has led working parents to prefer purchasing frozen hot dogs that their elementary, middle, and high school children can safely and conveniently prepare themselves in the microwave without separate cooking, which also contributed to the increase in sales.
Expanding the lineup with new products emphasizing differentiated taste and texture to target various consumers was also cited as one of the reasons. Shinsegae Food introduced Olban Chal Hot Dog as its first hot dog product in 2018, featuring bread with glutinous rice flour for a chewy texture, mozzarella string cheese, and high-quality sausage made with over 92% domestic pork, divided into top and bottom parts to enjoy two flavors at once.
