String Quartet Abel Quartet to Perform Without Audience at Kumho Art Hall, Live Streamed Online

[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] The string quartet Abel Quartet will hold its first concert after recruiting violist Moon Seohyun (23) as a new member.
Abel Quartet will perform a closed-door concert on the 21st at Kumho Art Hall Yonsei, and the performance will be live-streamed on the Kumho Art Hall channel of Naver V Live, Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation announced on the 18th.
Abel Quartet was first formed in 2013 with members violinists Yoon Eunsol (33) and Park Suhyun (31), cellist Jo Hyeongjun (33), and violist Kim Sejun (32). Among them, Kim Sejun was appointed principal violist of the Hanover NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and could no longer perform with the ensemble. Earlier this year, the promising next-generation violist Moon Seohyun (23) newly joined the group.
Abel Quartet solidified its international standing by winning 2nd place at the 2014 August Everding International Competition shortly after its formation in 2013, 1st place at the 2015 Haydn International Chamber Music Competition, 2nd place at the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition, and 3rd place at the 2016 Geneva International Competition?the first Korean to do so. They have been invited to perform at the Casalmaggiore Music Festival in Italy, Kuhmo Festival in Finland, Mozart Week at Tongyeong International Music Hall, and Seoul Spring Chamber Music Festival. They were selected as the resident string quartet at Ticino Musica held in Lugano, Switzerland, growing into a team that breathes young vitality into the world of chamber music. Since 2019, they have been invited as the resident string quartet by the Netherlands String Quartet Academy (NSKA) and have been active there. This year, they were invited again to the Kuhmo Festival in Finland and the Casalmaggiore Festival in Italy.

Abel Quartet will return to the Kumho Art Hall stage after four years, having been selected as Kumho Rising Stars at Kumho Art Hall in 2016. In celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday, they will perform Beethoven's string quartets Nos. 4, 11, and 15.
