Gokseong-gun Leads Forest Education Where Children Are Happy and Everyone Relates
Workshop on Forest Education for Parents, Faculty, and Staff to be Held Until June
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 18th that it is conducting six Gokseong Forest Education Workshops until the 20th of next month, starting with the first workshop held on the 14th at Jeweolseom in Ip-myeon.
Since the 7th local government administration, the county has made education a core policy of the county government, focusing on forest education, creative education, and village education communities. This workshop was prepared for parents and school staff to directly experience and empathize with the necessity of forest education. It is conducted under the subtitle "Forest Together Education," consisting of theory and on-site outdoor learning.
The characteristic of the 2020 Gokseong Forest Education Workshop is that it is conducted with customized themes according to the participants. To this end, the workshops are divided into six sessions from May 14 to June 20. The target groups for each session are: the 1st and 2nd sessions for education office staff and elementary and middle school staff; the 3rd and 4th sessions for kindergarten and daycare staff; and the 5th and 6th sessions for parents and families.
At the first workshop on the 14th, Principal Kim Yonggyu of Yeowoo Forest School took the microphone with the theme "The Forest Makes Our Children Happy." About 40 staff members in attendance learned through theoretical classes how forest education influences the development of creativity and sensitivity, and why forest education is necessary for our children. In the subsequent field class, participants toured Jeweolseom and were guided on forest activities that can be integrated into the curriculum.
Teacher A, a participant, said, "Through the workshop, I was able to empathize once again with the educational value of the forest and gained ideas on how to utilize the forest in class."
A county official stated, "For the promotion of child-centered forest education, it is important for parents and school staff to empathize with the necessity and to seek development directions together," and added that they will actively collect voices from the field.
