Minister of Science and ICT Visits 5G Component Companies, Emphasizes "Korean New Deal"

On the afternoon of the 18th, Choi Ki-young, Minister of Science and ICT, visited the headquarters of Oisolution, a 5G mobile communication component manufacturer located in the Gwangju Advanced Science National Industrial Complex, and made this statement.
On that day, Minister Choi toured the production lines actively operating despite the COVID-19 situation and encouraged the employees.
Oisolution is a representative strong SME related to 5G that mainly manufactures high-speed 'optical transceivers' which convert optical and electrical signals back and forth between 5G wireless base stations and wired networks. It occupies 80% of the domestic market for optical transceivers essential to support 5G performance that is 20 times faster than LTE.

Minister Choi said, “The reason our country aimed to be the world’s first to commercialize 5G was to foster the growth of strong SMEs like ‘Oisolution’ by preempting the upstream and downstream 5G industries,” and added, “I hope SMEs and mid-sized companies continue to faithfully fulfill their roles as they have been doing, and the government will also provide generous support so that companies can actively expand overseas based on this foundation.”
