Samsung Electronics Supports Startup Creation for 5 In-House Ventures through 'C-Lab Inside'
Employees participating in five projects launching startups through Samsung Electronics C-Lab
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung Electronics announced on the 18th that it will support the establishment of five outstanding startup projects from its in-house venture nurturing program, 'C-Lab Inside.'
C-Lab Inside is a program introduced by Samsung Electronics in December 2012 to foster a creative organizational culture and discover creative ideas from its employees. In August 2015, Samsung Electronics introduced the C-Lab Spin-off system to support excellent C-Lab Inside projects to become independent startups.
◆From CG video production apps to artificial sunlight-generating lighting... Samsung Electronics supports independence of five outstanding projects= The five startups becoming independent this time are ▲'Blockbuster,' a mobile application that allows easy production of computer graphics (CG) video content ▲'HYLER,' which converts and manages handwritten text on paper into digital form ▲'HAXBY,' an AI-based wrong answer management and recommendation service ▲'SunnyFive,' a window-type lighting that generates artificial sunlight ▲'RootSensor,' an ultra-small sensor capable of measuring ultraviolet exposure.
Blockbuster is a mobile application that enables beginner and intermediate video creators to easily produce CG video content. Unlike the traditional compositing method that overlays graphic effects on videos, it converts the space within the video into three dimensions (3D) and adds computer graphics to express stereoscopic 3D effects.
HYLER is a smart highlighter that digitally manages handwritten text on paper. When users underline desired text, it is transmitted in real-time to a linked mobile device, allowing easy storage of desired information. It also integrates with various search engines for easy searching. HAXBY is an AI-powered study note service that automatically generates wrong answer notes. By analyzing incorrect answers, it assesses students' academic understanding and recommends similar or advanced problems to help address weaknesses.
SunnyFive is a window-type lighting that generates artificial sunlight using 'Full Spectrum' light similar to natural sunlight. Notably, it eliminates ultraviolet A (UVA), which causes skin aging, and uses only ultraviolet B (UVB) wavelengths necessary for vitamin D synthesis, enabling health management in daily life. Brightness and color can also be adjusted via a dedicated application. RootSensor developed a sensor capable of measuring ultraviolet rays from any angle, overcoming the limitation of existing ultraviolet sensors whose measurements vary depending on the angle of incidence. When applied to wearable devices, smart cars, and smart buildings, this sensor can provide monitoring services related to ultraviolet exposure, vitamin D production, and skin condition due to ultraviolet exposure.
In particular, 'HYLER,' 'SunnyFive,' and 'RootSensor' participated in CES 2020, the world's largest electronics exhibition held in Las Vegas, USA, in January this year, receiving consumer feedback.

Samsung Electronics explained that it is spreading a culture where employees can challenge entrepreneurship with their ideas without fear of failure. So far, 163 people have started businesses, establishing 45 startups, and the investment attracted after spin-off is approaching 55 billion KRW. Additionally, the overall corporate value has increased more than threefold compared to the time of spin-off.
'Breathings' developed 'BULO,' an Internet of Things (IoT) solution for managing lung health at home. Since starting crowdfunding on the global largest crowdfunding platform 'Kickstarter' on the 21st of last month, Breathings has successfully raised about $72,000. 'Kittenplanet,' which operates through the educational augmented reality smart toothbrush 'BrushMonster' that helps children develop toothbrushing habits, plans to expand into dental care service models and release adult products.
Also, 'MANGOSLAB' launched 'Nemonic Mini,' a portable version of the smart printer 'Nemonic' that prints notes without toner, and provided it as a pre-order gift for the Galaxy S20 in February. Notably, 'Swallaby,' which develops health tracking applications, donated a 'COVID-19 Guideline Search' application to Seoul City through talent donation. This app allows medical staff at screening clinics, who need to respond quickly to COVID-19, to easily check government guidelines.
