Busanjin Station Container Yard, Commencement of Detailed Design Service for Subgrade Relocation to Sinhang Station
[Asia Economy Reporter Jusangdon Joo] The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 18th that it will hold a kickoff meeting for the detailed design service of the project to relocate the Busanjin Station container yard (CY) to the Shinhang Station on the 19th. This project is a preliminary project for the second phase of the redevelopment of Busan Port North Port.
The Busanjin Station CY relocation project is one of the railway facility rearrangement projects around Busan Station, a long-standing wish of Busan citizens. This project had been promoted separately from the North Port redevelopment project, but in March 2018, at the 'Busan Port Future Vision Declaration Ceremony,' the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Busan City agreed on the need to integrate the two projects and signed a basic agreement in October of the same year, starting integrated promotion. Since then, with the launch of the Busan Port North Port Integrated Development Promotion Team in March 2019, the integrated promotion of the two projects has been in full swing. This year, a design budget of 3 billion KRW has been secured to begin the detailed design service.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to complete the detailed design by the first half of next year and, after obtaining permits and approvals from related agencies such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Busan City, to start construction in the first half of 2022.
At this kickoff meeting, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Busan City, Busan Port Authority, Korea Railroad Corporation, and Korea Rail Network Authority will attend to discuss solutions to various pending issues related to the railway yard and CY facilities to be established around Busan Port Shinhang Station, the relocation site of Busanjin Station CY, as well as simultaneous promotion plans with the Beomcheon-dong general railway vehicle depot relocation project to ensure smooth project progress.

Kim Seongbeom, Director of the Port Bureau at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, said, "To smoothly promote the second phase of the Busan Port North Port redevelopment project, it is crucial to promptly relocate the Busanjin Station CY, which blocks the North Port and the old downtown area. We will do our best to ensure the project proceeds without any setbacks."
