[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 17th that it has applied to the Ministry of Environment for a national budget of 445.1 billion KRW in 2021 for the sewerage sector, including sewage treatment plant expansion projects, sewer pipeline maintenance projects, and urban flooding response projects.
This amount represents an increase of approximately 112% compared to the 210 billion KRW national budget in 2020. By project category, the budget includes ▲ sewage treatment plant expansion projects 61.6 billion KRW (25 locations) ▲ rural village sewer maintenance projects 130.6 billion KRW (68 locations) ▲ sewer pipeline maintenance projects 144 billion KRW (61 locations) ▲ sewer pipeline BTL project rental payments 68.5 billion KRW (17 locations) ▲ urban flooding response projects 38.5 billion KRW (5 locations) ▲ support for detailed investigations of aged sewer pipelines 1.3 billion KRW (8 locations) ▲ installation of township-level sewage treatment plants 600 million KRW (2 locations), totaling 186 projects.
By city and county, Pohang City has the largest allocation with 67 billion KRW, followed by Sangju City with 46 billion KRW and Gimcheon City with 32.5 billion KRW.
Among the national budget applications for next year, new projects account for 62 locations and 73.4 billion KRW, representing 16% of the total requested budget. To secure the national budget for new projects, Daejin Choi, Director of the Environment and Forestry Resources Bureau, along with officials from the Clean Water Policy Division, frequently visit central government departments to actively explain the necessity and justification of the projects and make multifaceted efforts to secure funding.
