On the 15th, despite the rain, Daegu City, along with about 30 members of the Daegu Safe Living Practice Citizens' Coalition (representative Kim Jungjin), promoted the focus on ‘making mask-wearing a daily habit’ at the Banwoldang Station central fountain, following the campaign held on the 8th.
Earlier, on the 5th, Daegu City issued an administrative order mandating mask-wearing when using public transportation or indoor public facilities, which sparked opposition from some civic groups who argued that it ‘dampens citizens’ voluntary willingness to participate.’
Accordingly, the ‘Daegu City COVID-19 Overcoming Pan-Citizen Countermeasures Committee’ decided at a meeting on the 12th to maintain the administrative order but extend the guidance (promotion) period by two more weeks until the 26th.
At the meeting, Mayor Kwon Young-jin explained, “It was mistakenly reported that fines imposed through court trials are the same as administrative fines directly imposed by Daegu City,” adding, “The purpose of the administrative order is to encourage citizens’ participation, not to prosecute.”
