Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education, "Remember May 18~" for Middle and High School Students
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Myung-jin] Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seung-hwan) is promoting various democratic citizenship education programs to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Movement.
On the 15th, the Office of Education announced plans to conduct May 18 commemorative education online for middle and high school students across all school levels, linked to the curriculum, and to encourage student-centered activities.
To this end, educational activities such as "Sharing fist rice balls of solidarity and harmony," "Student council-led debates," and "May 18 on-site experiences," as well as curriculum-linked lessons and materials, were provided to schools.
On the 16th and 23rd, the program "Democracy, let's go on a picnic! Sejong, walking together" will be held.
Democratic citizenship education research groups and task forces will conduct on-site exploratory democratic citizenship education for middle and high school students in the province, revisiting the traces of the democratization movement in the Jeonbuk region including Jeonbuk National University, and following the life of Lee Se-jong, the first victim who died at Jeonbuk National University due to martial law troops at that time.
On the 28th, a special lecture titled "Healing the wounds of May 18 through photography" will be held, featuring photographer Lim Jong-jin as a guest speaker.
The event will be held at the Student Rights Education Center for local teachers, parents, and the general public.
Additionally, a "May 18 Film Festival: Watching Together and Reflecting Again," jointly organized with civic groups, and a "May, Student Roundtable Discussion" involving 100 high school students in the province will also be held.
