Gwangsan District Council of Gwangju Pays Tribute at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangsan District Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Chairman Bae Hongseok) announced on the 14th that they paid a joint visit to the National May 18th Democratic Cemetery to honor the spirits of the victims.
This visit, held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the May 18th Democratic Movement, was attended by about 20 people including Chairman Bae Hongseok, Gwangsan district council members, and staff from the council secretariat.
The memorial ceremony proceeded in the order of offering flowers and incense at the memorial tower, silent prayer, and visiting the grave of martyr Yoon Sangwon.

Chairman Bae said, “We took time to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of the democratic movement on its 40th anniversary and to reflect on the value of democracy,” adding, “We will strive to carry on the spirit of the May 18 community and overcome the crisis caused by COVID-19 together.”
