The Ministry of Science and ICT held the Planning General Committee meeting to establish the "4th Basic Plan for Science and Technology Talent Development Support (2021?2025)" on the same day.
The basic plan is the highest-level policy for nurturing science and technology talent in South Korea, formulated every five years. The Planning Committee, chaired by Professor Myung-sook Oh of the Department of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering at Hongik University, gathered 12 experts for discussions.
The Planning Committee, along with six subcommittees involving about 40 experts covering elementary and secondary education, university and graduate school, incumbent workers, women, overseas, and highly experienced professionals, plans to prepare a draft by October this year. Based on this, the Ministry of Science and ICT will establish the basic plan within the year.
Chairman Oh stated, "We will present strategies for securing science and technology talent and policy tasks for talent development to respond to the declining school-age population and the acceleration of the 4th Industrial Revolution in the post-COVID-19 era."
