29-Year-Old Kindergarten Teacher in Gangnam-gu Tests Positive for COVID-19 Again After One Month of Recovery
Specimen Testing for 45 Individuals Including 26 Contacted Kindergarten Students, 10 Kindergarten Teachers and Staff, and 9 Elementary School Teachers
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] A 29-year-old kindergarten teacher in Gangnam-gu, who had previously been declared fully recovered from COVID-19, tested positive again on the 13th.
The woman living in Jagok-dong, Gangnam-gu, was first confirmed positive on March 12 and received isolation treatment at Seoul Metropolitan Seonam Hospital. She was discharged on April 12 and underwent two weeks of self-quarantine before returning to work on April 27.
Although she showed no particular symptoms afterward, she visited the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center on the 12th for a specimen test and was confirmed positive on the morning of the 13th.
Gangnam-gu has placed the woman under isolation, disinfected the affiliated kindergarten located in Gangnam-gu where she works, and started specimen testing for 45 people including 26 kindergarten students, 10 kindergarten teachers and staff, and 9 elementary school teachers who had contact with her.
Under the principle that early diagnosis is the best quarantine measure, Gangnam-gu is conducting tests on all contacts regardless of symptoms to prevent the “silent transmission” that infects many people even when asymptomatic. They are also proactively testing residents from other regions who wish to be tested, resulting in over 16,000 tests conducted.
Jung Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, "As local infection cases from secondary transmission through Itaewon club confirmed patients are increasing, please do not be complacent just because you have no symptoms. We strongly urge those who have visited Itaewon clubs or received testing request messages from Seoul city to get tested regardless of symptoms."
