Gwangju Buk-gu, Promotion of Living-Oriented Bandabi Complex Sports Center Construction
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Moon In) announced on the 13th that it will hold a project briefing session for the construction of the ‘Samjeong Elementary School Bandabi Complex Sports Center’ at 7 p.m. on the 19th at the Duam Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, attended by about 70 Samjeong Elementary School parents and local residents.
This project briefing session was prepared to explain the progress of the ‘Samjeong Elementary School Bandabi Complex Sports Center’ construction project, which was selected in the 2020 Living SOC Complex Project contest hosted by the National Balanced Development Committee last year, and to hear the opinions of residents on the matter.
The target area for the project, Duam-dong, has 7,120 households residing in five of the seven permanent rental apartment complexes in Gwangju City. The disabled population accounts for 26% of the total population of Buk-gu, with 5,647 people, and the elderly population aged 65 or older accounts for 21%, with 15,665 residents. However, leisure facilities available for vulnerable groups are insufficient.
Considering these conditions, residents of Duam-dong formed a residents’ council in February to request smooth project implementation and submitted a residents’ consent form signed by about 25,000 residents from Duam-dong, Punghyang-dong, and nearby areas to Buk-gu.
Accordingly, Buk-gu plans to invest a total of 13 billion KRW, including national and city funds, by 2022 to build a 4,000㎡ (basement 1 floor to ground 2 floors) living-oriented infrastructure complex sports center using the Samjeong Elementary School site in Duam-dong.
The first floor of the center will include a swimming pool and lounge accessible to both the general public and disabled persons; the second floor will have a gym, multipurpose room, and a shared childcare space, serving as a place for physical training and various cultural programs; and the basement first floor will be used as a parking lot.
In particular, the main entrances and parking lots of the sports center and school facilities will be completely separated to ensure student safety and maximize the guarantee of their right to learn.
