Social Distancing in Daily Life... Dobong-gu Distributes 'Online Dementia Prevention Exercises' for Seniors
Composed of reminiscence therapy, neck and shoulder stretching, degenerative arthritis prevention exercises, and brain-strengthening exercises
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) Dementia Safety Center has produced and distributed a ‘Dementia Prevention Exercise’ video for elderly dementia patients who spend most of their time at home practicing social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The district produced the dementia prevention exercise video to enhance the physical functions and provide emotional support for registered elderly users who have been unable to use the center due to social distancing measures related to COVID-19 prevention. On the 8th, the video was distributed to about 200 elderly users of the Dobong-gu Dementia Safety Center.
The video content includes △ reminiscence therapy featuring photos of elderly participants in the center’s cognitive rehabilitation program △ easy-to-follow neck and shoulder stretching exercises that anyone can do at home △ degenerative arthritis prevention exercises and brain-strengthening exercises demonstrated by an occupational therapist, with a total duration of 9 minutes and 25 seconds.
The dementia prevention exercise video was uploaded to the official blog of Dobong-gu Dementia Safety Center (http://blog.naver.com/dobong3591) and the link was sent to users. Users can watch it on their mobile phones, computers, etc.
Earlier, in April, the district distributed dementia prevention packages consisting of lettuce cultivation kits, mandala coloring books (including colored pencils), and cognitive booklets to about 80 elderly with mild cognitive impairment using the Cognitive Enhancement Center and about 30 dementia patients using the shelter.
Additionally, a non-face-to-face dementia management system has been maintained through phone check-ins and monitoring of dementia patients.
Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “I hope the dementia prevention exercise video will help elderly people regain vitality, stimulate cognition, and stabilize emotions, enabling them to overcome COVID-19 and improve their health even at home.”
The Dobong-gu Dementia Safety Center provides year-round services for early detection of dementia and prevention of severe dementia for residents aged 60 and over in Dobong-gu.
