Korea-UAE Nuclear Cooperation Virtual Working Meeting... Agreement to Hold 'High-Level Consultative Meeting' This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 12th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it held a 'Korea-UAE Nuclear Cooperation Video Conference' chaired by the co-chairs of the Korea-Arab Emirates (UAE) High-Level Nuclear Consultative Group.
In this meeting, both countries reviewed the implementation status of nuclear cooperation, a core pillar of the 'Special Strategic Partnership,' and discussed future plans. From the Korean side, Park Il, Director of Nuclear Non-Proliferation Diplomacy Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended, and from the UAE side, Nasser Al Nasser, CEO of Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, participated.
Both sides agreed to hold the '3rd Korea-UAE High-Level Nuclear Consultative Meeting' in Korea at a mutually convenient time within this year. Under the high-level consultative meeting, the three working groups?▲ Barakah Nuclear Power Plant Cooperation and Joint Entry into Third-Country Nuclear Power Projects ▲ Nuclear Science and Technology Research and Development (R&D) ▲ Nuclear Safety Regulation and Nuclear Security?will closely coordinate to implement agreed matters.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "This video conference was evaluated as an opportunity to review and ensure that nuclear cooperation, a core pillar of the 'Special Strategic Partnership' between the two countries, can proceed without disruption despite the global spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)."
