Cultural Heritage Administration Provides Traditional Technique Training for Cultural Heritage Repair Technicians
On the 11th, the Cultural Heritage Administration announced that it will provide hands-on traditional technique training for applicants of the cultural heritage repair technician education program covering twelve categories. This specialized training was established following the revision of the "Act on the Repair of Cultural Heritage, etc." in December last year. Since cultural heritage repair skills have traditionally been passed down only through apprenticeship, which has its limitations, the cultural heritage sector is taking the initiative to conduct direct education. The training fields include mosa, Korean-style plastering, ondol (underfloor heating), gilding, beonwawa gong, wood carving, stone carving, processed stonework, stacked stonework, painting, joinery, and carpentry. Interested individuals can download the application form from the Korean Cultural Heritage Crafts Federation website, complete it, and submit it via email or postal mail. Technicians who complete the training will be issued a certificate of specialized education completion, which will also be recognized as additional credit when calculating future career experience. An official stated, “In addition to the training, we will hold exhibitions and skills competitions to motivate cultural heritage repair technicians to enhance their skills.”
