Kim Tae-nyeon, at First Supreme Council Meeting, "Will Begin Institutional Improvements to Create a 'Working National Assembly'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced at his first Supreme Council meeting after taking office that he would immediately begin working on passing the amendment to the National Assembly Act for a working parliament.
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 8th, Floor Leader Kim said, "Due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), this is an extremely serious time, so I feel an immense sense of heavy responsibility rather than joy," adding, "I will repeatedly reflect on and consider what the people expect from the ruling party every day."
He continued, "I will be a floor leader who firmly supports the second half of the Moon Jae-in administration's governance and takes the lead in overcoming the crisis," and said, "I will devote all my efforts to overcoming the economic crisis caused by COVID-19. In particular, I will first embrace and take care of our ordinary citizens and the vulnerable who are inevitably susceptible to the economic crisis."
Floor Leader Kim cited the amendment to the National Assembly Act as his first task. He emphasized, "We will definitely accomplish the Moon Jae-in administration’s national agenda and the reform tasks promised to the people by our party in the 21st National Assembly," and added, "For this, a working parliament is essential. We must immediately begin institutional improvements for a working parliament."
Regarding the United Future Party’s election of a new floor leader that day, he said, "I have high expectations for who will become my partner in creating the basic framework and direction of the 21st National Assembly together," and stated, "I will strive to make the 21st National Assembly a place where the ruling and opposition parties engage in fierce debates through policy rather than political strife and produce results."
