[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] With the Ministry of Science and ICT's assistive communication device support project underway, Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-su) has begun recruiting recipients for distribution.
This project aims to expand economic and social participation opportunities for people with disabilities and bridge the digital divide. It targets registered disabled persons and national veterans with disability ratings residing in Gangbuk-gu.
The devices to be distributed include a total of 91 products across 20 categories. These include ▲optical character readers, reading magnifiers, and braille information terminals for the visually impaired ▲switches, touch monitors, special mice, and special keyboards for those with physical and brain lesions disabilities ▲bone conduction hearing devices, wireless signalers, speech training software, video phones, and communication aids for the hearing and speech impaired.
The subsidy covers 80% of the device price, with the remaining 20% borne by the individual. For basic livelihood security recipients and low-income disabled persons, 50% of the individual's share is further reduced.
Applicants can submit their application form, disability certificate or national veteran confirmation, and other required documents by mail (Gangbuk-gu Office, Information Support Division, 13 Dobong-ro 89-gil, Gangbuk-gu) or in person, or apply online at (at4u.or.kr) by June 19.
The final recipients will be selected through document evaluation, in-depth interviews, and review committee assessments based on various criteria including disability grade, economic status, and usability.
Results will be posted on the Seoul city website on July 17 and individual notifications will be sent to selected recipients.
Individuals must pay their share into the account registered by the distribution company between July 20 and July 31. After payment, product delivery and installation will proceed. According to agreements between companies, the distributed assistive devices are eligible for free A/S for 1 to 2 years.
