Yangcheon-gu Selected for Seoul City's '2020 Apartment Co-living Project'
Yangcheon-gu Receives 92 Million KRW from Seoul City Contest to Promote Social Economy and Improve Residents' Quality of Life Through Social Economy Experience
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) has been finally selected for the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s public project, the ‘2020 Apartment Complex Co-living Project,’ and will receive project funding of 92 million KRW.
The ‘Apartment Complex Co-living Project’ primarily involves residents within apartment complexes identifying inconveniences and issues they face while living in apartments. Residents and social economy organizations collaboratively gather ideas and independently resolve these problems to create a better living environment.
Two apartment complexes, Mokdong Hyundai A Apartment and Sinjeong Samsung Apartment, were selected for this year’s ‘Apartment Complex Co-living Project.’
Mokdong Hyundai A Apartment began a pilot operation of the Apartment Complex Co-living Project in 2018 and has since carried out after-school care for children and elderly care programs, as well as forming resident self-help groups. Entering its second year, this year it plans to collaborate with social enterprises to run a resident care expert course, establish a cooperative, and form an economic community within the region.
Also participating for the first time this year, Sinjeong Samsung Apartment will focus on ‘forming and activating resident small groups’ that lead the discovery of problems within the apartment complex and seek solutions, including elderly care projects, senior social activity support programs, reorganization of resident community spaces, and fostering resident small groups.

Mayor Kim Soo-young stated, “For the sustainable development of the social economy, it is most important that residents experience the social economy firsthand and participate together through it. We expect this project to contribute not only to realizing common interests and social values but also to revitalizing the social economy and improving residents’ quality of life.”
