View original image[Asia Economy (Icheon) = Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The police announced on the 1st that the identities of four additional workers who died in the logistics warehouse fire disaster in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, which claimed 38 lives, have been confirmed.
The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency held a briefing at the fire site at 10:30 a.m. on the 1st and stated, "The identities of four unidentified deceased have been confirmed," adding, "The total number of identified deceased is currently 33."
The police explained that the additionally identified deceased were confirmed to be construction site workers. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether they were day laborers. A police official emphasized, "We have formed a dedicated team of 49 members in 10 groups to protect victims, including families of foreign victims," and added, "We will provide frequent updates on the investigation progress and support the families to ensure they face no difficulties."
Additionally, autopsies to determine the exact cause of death will begin from the morning of the same day. A police official said, "Autopsies are planned for 15 individuals, including those requested by families or whose identities have not yet been revealed."
Following the previous day, a second joint on-site investigation to determine the cause of the fire is also underway. Seven organizations, including the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency, Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, National Forensic Service, Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, Ministry of Employment and Labor, and Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, began the joint investigation at the fire site from 10:30 a.m. on the same day.
