'Naver Fined 40.2 Million KRW in Penalties and Fines for Personal Information Leak'
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Naver, which leaked personal information during the settlement process of blog advertising revenue last year, has been fined a penalty of 27.2 million KRW and a fine of 13 million KRW by the Korea Communications Commission.
On the 29th, the Korea Communications Commission discussed the "Corrective Measures on Naver's Violation of Personal Information Protection Laws" at the 23rd plenary meeting held at the Government Complex Gwacheon and resolved accordingly.
Naver, which operates 'AdPost' that distributes advertising revenue to bloggers, accidentally sent emails containing personal information such as the names, addresses, resident registration numbers, and AdPost payment income of about 2,200 users to others during the settlement process in April last year, resulting in a personal information leak.
According to the Korea Communications Commission's investigation, Naver's settlement system had problems from the time of development. Naver applied the system to actual work without conducting real-world testing after development. Also, the password for the withholding tax receipt PDF file was set to the last seven digits of the resident registration number instead of the date of birth, allowing the secure mail to be opened. According to the Korea Communications Commission, Naver did not encrypt personal information and did not isolate the personal information storage server from the external internet network. Eventually, after the investigation began, Naver admitted the personal information leak and violations of personal information protection measures and corrected all the problematic issues.
