Court Approves Min Kyung-wook's 'General Election Ballot Box Evidence Preservation Request'... Sealed on the 29th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Former United Future Party lawmaker Min Kyung-wook, who ran and lost in the Incheon Yeonsu-eul constituency in the April 15 general election, had his request for preservation of ballot boxes and other evidence, filed with the court amid allegations of vote-counting manipulation, accepted.
On the 28th, Judge Ahn Min-young of the Incheon District Court Civil Division 35 announced that he partially approved Min’s application for preservation of evidence against the head of the Yeonsu District Election Commission.
Judge Ahn decided to preserve 17 out of 27 election-related pieces of evidence requested by Min, including ballot boxes, ballots, CCTV footage showing the storage process of ballot boxes from the early voting day to the present, and CCTV footage during the counting process.
However, the court dismissed the preservation requests for the remaining 10 pieces of evidence, including electronic voting machines, counting machines, the election management system web server, and the counting machine computer programs.
The court plans to conduct the evidence preservation work at the Yeonsu District Election Commission starting at 2 p.m. on the 29th. After securing and sealing the evidence, it will be stored temporarily at the Incheon District Court building.
Subsequently, if Min files an election invalidation lawsuit or a disqualification lawsuit with the Supreme Court, the seals will be removed and a recount will be conducted.
Min stated the day before, "I will resolve the doubts about the election counting results nationwide, including my own district," and filed the preservation request with the court. The preservation request is a legal procedure to secure ballots and ballot boxes before filing an election invalidation or disqualification lawsuit.
Earlier, on the 22nd, Min held a press conference at the National Assembly, raising suspicions of vote-counting manipulation by pointing out that the ratio of out-of-district early votes to in-district early votes matched in some constituencies, including his own.
