60s Woman Given Probation for Stabbing Husband with Knife Over Divorce Refusal
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] A woman in her 60s who attempted to kill her husband with a weapon was sentenced to probation.
The Jeonju District Court's 12th Criminal Division (Chief Judge Kim Yoorang) announced on the 27th that A (66), who was indicted on charges of attempted murder, was sentenced to three years in prison with a five-year probation period.
The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "Although the nature of the crime is serious, considering that the defendant is a first-time offender and deeply remorseful, committed the crime impulsively while physically and mentally exhausted from caring for her husband, and that the victim does not want punishment but rather leniency, the sentence was determined accordingly."
A is accused of stabbing her husband B (67) twice in the abdomen and leg with a weapon at their home in Soyang-myeon, Wanju-gun, Jeonbuk, around 10:05 p.m. on January 5.
B, who was stabbed, escaped outside the house and reportedly called 119 himself afterward.
A was caught by police who responded to the report near the Seomjingang Dam in Imsil-gun. It is known that immediately after the crime, A left the house leaving her husband behind and headed toward the Seomjingang Dam area intending to take extreme measures herself.
A reportedly stated, "I was exhausted from caregiving and asked for a divorce from my husband, but he refused, so I acted out of anger."
