Professor Kim Junha of GIST Appointed as Member of the Presidential Policy Planning Committee
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Junho] Professor Kim Junha of the Department of Environmental Engineering at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) has been appointed as a member of the Presidential Policy Planning Committee.
GIST announced on the 21st that Professor Kim was appointed as a member of the National Growth Subcommittee of the Policy Planning Committee and will participate in coordinating national science and technology tasks, policy planning, and advisory activities.
The Policy Planning Committee was established directly under the President in December 2017 and has served as a think tank responsible for coordinating the top 100 national tasks, researching policy issues, and formulating national development strategies. This year, the committee formed its second term and is newly organized into four subcommittees: National Sovereignty (policy, administration, judiciary), National Growth (economy, science and technology), Inclusive Society (welfare, labor, environment, local autonomy, balanced development), and Peace and Prosperity (diplomacy, security).
Professor Kim stated, "Based on my practical experience in the field, I will faithfully serve as a bridge between new science and technology and implementation policies," adding, "I will actively participate in the current government's efforts to discover future-oriented new industries, job economy, and innovative growth."

Professor Kim was appointed as a professor at GIST in 2004 and has built expertise over several decades in the field of environmental big data research. Recently, he contributed as a strategic planner to the Gwangju Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Complex project, aiding the successful implementation of the current government's national tasks. Currently, as an expert in supercomputing environments for the Ministry of Science and ICT, he serves as the head of the Urban Environment Specialized Center and actively participates in fostering new industries in artificial intelligence and big data.
