The Misadventures of Three Men in New York During the Great Depression 'Mia Familia' Opens in June
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The musical "Mia Famiglia," set in 1930s New York during the Great Depression, will open on June 9th at Daehakro YES24 Stage 2.
"Mia Famiglia" humorously depicts the chaotic adventures of three men at the 1930s New York bar "Apollonia." Vaudeville actors Richard and Oscar are preparing for their final performance when Mafia member Steve appears. Through meeting Richard and Oscar, Steve experiences the joy of friendship for the first time and joins them on stage.
"Mia Famiglia" features a stylish structure alternating between the main play and two plays within the play, along with highly addictive music. It premiered in 2013, and last year, the new production company Home Company successfully completed a revival. During last year’s revival, the average seat occupancy rate reached 96%. Home Company stated that to reach a wider audience, this year’s performance will be held on a larger stage, enhancing the fantasy elements of the plays within the play and refining details to further improve the work’s completeness.
All nine actors from last year’s cast have confirmed their return. Leading the cast are Lee Seung-hyun, Yoo Sung-jae, and Heo Gyu, who have been with the production since its 2013 premiere, joined by Kim Do-bin, Jo Poong-rae, Park Young-soo, Kwon Yong-guk, Park Gyu-won, and Ahn Chang-yong for the third run.
Additionally, three new actors are joining. Hwang Min-soo, who appeared in musicals such as "Midnight: Antlers," "Vincent Van Gogh," and "Sejong, 1446," will play the role of "Richard." Jang Min-soo, known for "Marie Curie" and "Fan Letter," will take on the cheerful and optimistic role of "Oscar." Moon Kyung-cho, who has performed in Basque musical "432Hz," musicals "Anthemosa," and "Internal Medicine Hospital," will join as "Stevie."
