The Korea Golf Association announced on the 3rd, "The Maekyung Open, which was scheduled to be held from April 30 at Namseoul Golf Club in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, has been postponed due to the global spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). To protect the health of players, galleries, and tournament officials and to practice social distancing, the tournament date will be moved to the second half of this year." The tournament is co-hosted by the Korea Golf Association and the Asian Tour, with a total prize money of 1.2 billion KRW, and the defending champion is Lee Tae-hee (36).

The Korea Golf Association added, "Since its establishment in 1982, the Maekyung Open has been held every year without fail," and "We plan to continue this tradition by holding it in the second half of this year." This year, all domestic men's professional golf tournaments, from the 2020 season Korean Professional Golf (KPGA) Korean Tour opener DB Insurance Promy Open to the Maekyung Open, SK Telecom Open, and KB Financial Live Championship, have been postponed or canceled. The next tournament is the major 63rd KPGA Championship, which opens on June 11.
