National Gugak Center Partners with Naver TV to Expand Online Gugak Content
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The National Gugak Center is expanding its online performance content in partnership with Naver TV.
The National Gugak Center recently announced on the 3rd that, in response to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), it will continuously provide online performance content to Naver TV, and Naver has agreed to actively promote the content.
Currently, through the Naver TV channel, the National Gugak Center offers high-quality Gugak performance content every weekday at 11 a.m. through the program "Daily Gugak," and a talk concert "Sarangbang Junggae" broadcast live every Saturday at 3 p.m. throughout April. Naver plans to feature the April performances on the 4th and 11th of "Sarangbang Junggae" on the main page of the performance exhibition section.
Going forward, the National Gugak Center will introduce weekly online performances called "Weekly Gugak," mainly featuring prominent Gugak groups, and regular and special performances such as "Friday Sympathy," a collaborative stage between Gugak and artists from other genres. It will also provide production presentations and educational videos of major performances through Naver TV. Naver will actively promote these to popularize Gugak on its platform.
Additionally, on the National Gugak Center’s Naver TV channel, viewers can enjoy over 110 diverse contents including various Gugak children’s song animations, original Gugak children’s songs, Gugak performance videos for children, and educational videos for learning Samulnori, making it content that the whole family can enjoy together.
Besides TV channel content collaboration, the National Gugak Center and Naver signed a business agreement in 2009 and built a professional Gugak information database by 2010, which is currently in service. In 2018 and 2019, they cooperated in discovering drama OST soundtracks and holding popular music composition contests using Naver’s Grafolio platform to promote Gugak content.
