Daegu City Provides Up to 1 Million KRW Support for Unpaid Leave and Special Workers Due to 'COVID-19'
Special Support of 500,000 KRW per Month for Two Months to 34,800 People
2,800 Unemployed People Engaged in 'Public Job Project'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters (Daegu) Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 31st that starting next month, it will provide up to 500,000 KRW per month for two months to unpaid leave workers of small businesses affected by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and special-type workers without employment insurance.
The target group includes about 34,800 people, such as unpaid leave workers at companies with fewer than five employees, instructors, private tutors, and freelancers. The amount allocated for this is 23 billion KRW in national funds.
About 15,000 unpaid leave workers who do not receive employment retention subsidies will receive 25,000 KRW per day, up to 500,000 KRW per month, for two months. The total amount reaches 11 billion KRW.
Additionally, about 17,000 special-type workers without employment insurance, such as academy instructors, visiting private tutors, door-to-door salespeople, and freelancers, will also receive the same support funds totaling 12 billion KRW.
Eligible applicants can apply online, in person, or by mail from the 13th to the 29th of next month by submitting documents such as unpaid leave confirmation and proof of special-type worker status. Detailed information will be announced on the 9th of next month.
Daegu City has also secured 29.9 billion KRW, including 14 billion KRW in national funds and 15.9 billion KRW in city funds, to promote a short-term public sector job project. About 2,800 unemployed people aged 18 to 64 will be selected and assigned to tasks such as quarantine and emergency livelihood support, receiving up to 1.8 million KRW per month for three months.
Separately from these projects funded by national and city funds, Daegu City's emergency livelihood funds, which provide 500,000 to 900,000 KRW depending on household size for households with income below 100% of the median income, can be received concurrently. Detailed information on the short-term public sector job project will be announced by district and county in early April.

Regarding the selection of support recipients, Lee Seung-ho, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Daegu City, stated, "We will decide after verifying the application documents. However, if the number of applicants exceeds the budget, a review committee will be formed to select priority recipients."
