Hwasun-gun to Provide 'Marriage Incentive Payment' Starting Next Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Young-gyun] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 30th that it will provide marriage encouragement funds starting next year to foster a marriage-friendly atmosphere among the younger generation.
The county recently amended the ‘Basic Ordinance on County Population Policy’ and finalized the plan to support marriage encouragement funds.
The support targets couples who registered their marriage after the enforcement date of the amended ordinance, March 10 of this year. Both the applicant and spouse must have been registered residents of the county and actually residing there before the marriage registration, and both spouses must be 49 years old or younger as of the marriage registration date to be eligible.
Applications can be made only after one year has passed since the marriage registration, remarried individuals are not eligible, and for example, if the marriage registration was on the 10th of next month, applications can be submitted starting from April 10 of the following year.
The support amount is up to 10 million KRW, paid annually at 2 million KRW per year over five years.
In cases of marriage with a foreigner, the first application can be made after the birth of a child or acquisition of nationality, and when the child or foreign spouse is registered as a resident in the county.

A county official stated, “The marriage encouragement fund will help address the low birthrate problem caused by the declining marriage rate among the younger generation who are reluctant to marry due to reasons such as remaining single or late marriage,” and added, “We will continue to develop various policies for the younger generation in the region.”
