Future United Party and Korean Party Overcome Nomination Controversies to Fully Activate Election Committee Mode... Yoo Seung-min Provides Side Support
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The United Future Party and the Future Korea Party are putting the 'nomination controversy' behind them and entering full-scale election campaign committee mode. Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party, expressed a strong intention to respond firmly, including 'permanent ban on party admission' for independent candidates. Kim Jong-in, the general election campaign committee chairman, will hold a meeting with Tae Gu-min (former North Korean envoy to the UK, Tae Yong-ho), the candidate for Gangnam Gap. Yoo Seung-min, who had remained silent for a while after the merger, will support candidates from outside the campaign committee.
On the morning of the 30th, Chairman Kim met with candidate Tae at the National Assembly main building and offered words of encouragement, saying, "You can win the election. Work hard." He emphasized the judgment of the administration, saying, "Although the election has been overshadowed by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), our voters are highly educated, and this election is to judge the three years of poor governance."
In response, candidate Tae said, "I feel like I have gained a great support," and added, "Thank you for embracing me so greatly and for letting me know the key points to win the election. I will work hard." Previously, Chairman Kim had targeted candidate Tae in a media interview, saying "He has no roots in South Korea," which led to candidate Tae demanding an apology and causing some friction. This meeting appears to be an effort to resolve old grievances and boost the election atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Chairman Kim appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae Focus' on the same day and said, "Looking back at 2016, who would have thought the Democratic Party of Korea would become the first party?" When asked by the host if he was confident that the United Future Party would become the first party in the National Assembly, he replied, "I am confident."
Leader Hwang voiced a strong stance against independent candidates such as former Liberty Korea Party leader Hong Joon-pyo. At the campaign committee meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, he said, "Running as an independent candidate goes against the people's mandate and is an act that helps the Moon administration, so we have no choice but to respond strongly," adding, "We will amend the party constitution and regulations to take strong measures such as permanent bans on party admission, and will severely discipline those who assist independents as acts of misconduct."
Yoo Seung-min, who had been silent for 46 days since the launch of the United Future Party, began active support activities from last weekend. On the 27th, he met Jin Soo-hee, who is running in Jung-Seongdong Gap in Seoul, and on the 29th, he met with Representative Ji Sang-wook, running in Jung-Seongdong Eul, and candidate Kim Woong, running in Songpa Gap in Seoul, offering words of encouragement. On the afternoon of the 30th, he visited the campaign office of Song Han-seop, a recruited talent of the United Future Party running in Yangcheon Gap, and then visited the campaign office of Yoo Kyung-joon, running in Gangnam Byeong, in succession. Especially during the visit to candidate Yoo, they also held a discussion on "Ways to overcome the Korean economy crisis after the COVID-19 situation."

The sister party, Future Korea Party, is also transitioning to a campaign committee system. The Future Korea Party secured the status of a negotiating group in the National Assembly with 20 seats by recruiting a large number of United Future Party lawmakers such as Yeo Sang-gyu, Park Maeng-woo, and Baek Seung-joo, and was allocated the party leader's office and meeting room in the main building of the National Assembly. The meeting room number is Room 222. Won Yoo-chul, leader of the Future Korea Party, said, "We will launch the campaign committee on the 31st and, at the same time, hold a policy alliance agreement ceremony with our brother party, the United Future Party," adding, "The Future Korea Party and the United Future Party are brother parties, and our future brother parties will create new hope for the Republic of Korea."
