[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Park Hee-eun] Singer Jang Mi-hwa opened up about the behind-the-scenes story of the 'custody dispute' that arose from her divorce lawsuit with her husband.
On the 27th, Jang Mi-hwa appeared on KBS 1TV’s ‘TV Loads Love’ and reflected on her life story.
She was discovered by singer Shin Jung-hyun and, in 1966, joined the female band 'Lady Bird' that performed overseas. For six years, she toured Southeast Asia, Canada, and the United States.
After returning to Korea, Jang shared the hardships she faced working in nightclubs. She said, "When performing, intoxicated customers threw leftover side dishes at me," adding, "Eventually, my mental state weakened. At that time, I wanted to get married, so I married at 33 and retired."
She said, "The first three years of marriage were fun," but mentioned, "There were conflicts after my husband's business failure and pregnancy. To gain custody, I repaid debts worth 10 billion won," referring to her difficult married life.
She continued, "I worked at 12 night establishments a day. Starting at 6:30 p.m. at a cabaret, then moving to stand bars and nightclubs, working until 4 a.m.," adding, "At that time, I lost my pride. I only thought about raising my young son and taking care of my sick mother."
In the latter part of the broadcast, Jang Mi-hwa reunited with her older sister, who had dreamed of becoming a singer with her during childhood, touching viewers. The episode recorded a viewership rating of 8.1%.
