Boeun Police Station's 'Unauthorized Departure Incident' Involves 20s Confirmed Case Who Is a Shincheonji Trainee (Comprehensive)
Daegu City Takes Measures to Transfer Patients to Local Hospitals
Planned to File Charges Today
[Asia Economy Reporters Kim Heung-soon and Jung Dong-hoon] A woman in her 20s who was diagnosed with COVID-19 in Daegu and admitted to a residential treatment center in Boeun-gun, Chungbuk, caused a disturbance by leaving the facility without permission and has been confirmed as a Shincheonji Jesus Church trainee. The Daegu city government plans to transfer her to a local hospital for hospitalization and file charges based on violation of quarantine regulations.
On the morning of the 27th, Chae Hong-ho, Deputy Head of the Daegu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, stated at a regular briefing that the female resident who left the facility without permission is a Shincheonji trainee. He said, "We judged that professional psychological treatment is necessary, so she was transferred to a hospital in Daegu. We plan to file charges today under the Infectious Disease Prevention and Management Act."
According to Boeun-gun and quarantine authorities, the woman, who was admitted to the Military Manpower Administration Social Service Training Center in Seowon-ri, Jangan-myeon, Boeun-gun, left the facility without permission around 2:20 p.m. on the 26th. She then walked to a nearby pension in the village and even spoke with the owner.
The owner reportedly thought she was an outsider who came to make a reservation and even served her coffee. However, about 20 minutes later, members of the residential treatment facility operation support team and medical staff visited the pension, took her back to the facility, and only then realized she was a confirmed COVID-19 patient. The owner's wife drank some of the coffee the woman had left unfinished.
The owner immediately informed the county office and the village chief, and the county health center placed the owner's wife, who was confirmed to have had close contact with the female patient, under self-quarantine and disinfected the pension area.
The Daegu city government stated, "It is understood that she left the facility without permission through the basement exit, which was left open to bring in lunch boxes and quarantine supplies." The woman had received psychological counseling several times due to severe anxiety after admission and reportedly said she came out to get some fresh air because she felt suffocated that day as well.
