Gyeonggi Provincial Gugak Orchestra Renamed to Gyeonggi Sinawi Orchestra
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Gugak Orchestra has changed its name to the "Gyeonggi Sinawi Orchestra."
The Gyeonggi Provincial Gugak Orchestra, an arts group under the Gyeonggi Arts Center, announced on the 27th that it had changed its name to the Gyeonggi Sinawi Orchestra through a recent revision of the center's bylaws.
This name change was initiated by Artistic Director Won Il, who took office in November last year.
A representative of the Gyeonggi Sinawi Orchestra explained, "There are about 20 organizations nationwide using the name 'Provincial Gugak Orchestra,' so we wanted to create differentiation," adding, "The combination of the words 'Sinawi' and 'Orchestra' embodies our intention to introduce original Korean music to the world."
