Yuseonghun, Geumcheon District Mayor, Presents Appreciation Certificates to 3 Good Landlords of Eunhaengnamu Market
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) on the 25th presented certificates of appreciation to three benevolent landlords who voluntarily reduced rent, giving great hope and courage to the merchants of Eunhaengnamu Market.
At Geumcheon-gu Eunhaengnamu Market, since February when the spread of COVID-19 began in the local community, three landlords voluntarily participated in the "Good Rent" campaign, reducing the rent of a total of six stores by 20-30%.
On this day, the Eunhaengnamu Market Merchants Association expressed their gratitude by presenting small gifts to the benevolent landlords.
The district, together with Seoul City, decided to support landlords who reduced rent by reimbursing 30% of the reduced rent up to 5 million KRW for either building repair costs or electrical safety inspections, and will also support quarantine efforts and promotion of benevolent landlord building signage.
Furthermore, Seoul City plans to prioritize traditional market facility improvement projects in 2021 for markets with a high rate of rent reduction.
Benevolent landlord Jang Byung-jin said, "During this difficult time for everyone due to COVID-19, I decided to reduce rent to share the difficulties of small business owners, but I feel embarrassed to receive a certificate of appreciation like this," and added, "I hope the district office actively considers support measures for market merchants struggling due to COVID-19."
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon said, "I was moved by the consensus formed through the Good Rent campaign that landlords and merchants want to overcome this difficult time together," and added, "The district will do its best to overcome these difficult times together by actively reviewing support measures for small business owners and benevolent landlords."
