S&T Motive Develops Heat Shield Cover to Block Rifle Barrel Heat
[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] Defense contractor S&T Motive announced on the 24th that it has developed and patented a rifle barrel and heat shield cover with enhanced durability.
The rifle barrel experiences rapid wear as the internal temperature rises to 1100 degrees Celsius during high-speed firing. Continuous firing of about 10,000 rounds causes deformation due to the intense heat, significantly degrading shooting performance. Existing surface treatments cannot withstand this heat.
To address these issues, S&T Motive used a highly durable alloy steel for the barrel and barrel cover materials, extending the rifle's lifespan and maintaining consistent firearm performance during rapid firing. In particular, it protects soldiers from heat, reducing injuries such as hand burns.

A representative from S&T Motive's Special Development Team stated, "The alloy steel-based barrel patent improves the durability of the rifle's core component, the barrel, and can be applied to small-caliber firearms developed in the future." He added, "We will continue to strive to thoroughly protect our intellectual property from increasingly intense global competition and domestic and international technology leaks through patent acquisitions."
