Another Death of USFK Soldiers at Pyeongtaek Base
[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu]Two consecutive days of soldier deaths have occurred at the U.S. Forces Korea Pyeongtaek Base (Camp Humphreys).
According to the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division on the 25th, on the 22nd of this month, Specialist Clay Welch (20), a combat medic, was found unconscious in his barracks at Camp Humphreys. Emergency medical personnel responded and declared him dead at the scene. The U.S. military is investigating the cause of death.
Specialist Welch, from Dearborn Heights, Michigan, was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley, Kansas. He enlisted in the Army in September 2017 in Detroit, Michigan, completed training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and was assigned to the 2nd Brigade. He arrived at Fort Riley in April 2018.
He was deployed to Korea in February this year following a brigade transfer.
Lieutenant Colonel Robert Dion, the battalion commander to which Specialist Welch belonged, expressed, "We offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends," and added, "We are deeply saddened by the news of his death."

Earlier, on the 21st, Private First Class Jo Gloria (25, female) also died in her accommodation at the Pyeongtaek U.S. military base. A U.S. Forces Korea official stated, "Both deaths appear to be unrelated to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)."
