Hyundai Motor Brazil Factory Suspends Operations Due to COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor's Brazil plant has suspended operations due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to Hyundai Motor on the 24th, the local plant decided to halt operations from the 23rd until the 9th of next month in accordance with the policy of the S?o Paulo state government in Brazil.
The S?o Paulo state government had previously declared a state of emergency on the 21st, prohibiting commercial activities for 15 days.
The Hyundai Motor S?o Paulo plant has an annual production capacity of 180,000 units. Following the state government's decision, most plants located locally, including GM, Volkswagen, BMW, Toyota, and Honda, have suspended operations.
